Our friends and partners at Bountiful Cities have launched their Share Market program – a unique model of free food distribution that invites community gardeners to share their excess produce with their neighbors in need. The markets take place twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, from 3-5pm at William Randolph School on Montford Avenue in Asheville.
Cathy from Bountiful Cities explains, “Our goal is to have not only fresh food resources, but agriculture resources here at the share market so that people can have long-term food security.”
This program was created in partnership with Asheville City Schools and Buncombe Master Gardeners. The NC Center for Health and Wellness is conducting research on the program, hoping to create a template for other communities to use. Thank you to Cathy, Alex, and Shuvonda for speaking to MANNA about the importance of this innovative new program!
“We hope that this will bring neighbors together, so it’s not just about food security, it’s about community.”
