To Volunteer

NOTE: As of October 31, MANNA is so grateful to share that our shifts to volunteer at our warehouse are completely full. If you would like to volunteer in the fight against hunger during this crisis, please use our Food Finder to find one of our partner agencies near you, and offer your help to them. Our partner food pantries and meal sites are the front line of distributing food to our community, and they need your help. Thank you!

Volunteer opportunities are available at our Mills River warehouse. For safety purposes, we ask volunteers to please sign up online rather than arriving at either location without registering first.

If you already have a volunteer account with us, you can sign in here.

For new volunteers, follow the steps outlined here to get started.

MANNA also has group volunteer opportunities. Find out more here.

What is MANNA Doing?

We will continue to show up for our community by working closely with our food partner network and connecting people to available resources. MANNA is committed to supporting our 220+ partner pantries and meal sites.

What We’ve Done to Increase Food Availability

We have already taken critical steps to keep food flowing to families despite mounting challenges.

  • The Essential Food Program has allowed us to considerably increase our food availability. In the last few months, we’ve invested over $1.5M in purchasing local produce, eggs, meat, and cheese, significantly increasing the availability of these healthy staples in our community.
  • We have made several proactive bulk purchases to prepare for increased need in the early days of the shutdown. This inventory was fully distributed almost immediately after purchase.
  • We are coordinating with federal workers who are highly impacted to hold emergency Pop-Up Markets as needed. We will continue to evaluate needs for future Pop-Ups, but our focus will be on increasing food distribution through our partner network.
  • MANNA has activated every available resource — from emergency food purchasing to volunteer mobilization — to support families and partners through this crisis.
  • We are continuing our outreach, education, and activation around the impact of these delays on our neighbors.

Moving Forward

MANNA has already begun taking action to support WNC through this crisis, including:

  • We have expanded our food purchasing budget by 200% to meet the surge in need over the next three months.
  • Monitoring supply and demand daily and adjusting purchasing and allocations in real time.
  • Ensuring expanded staffing on our Food Helpline to support people looking for food.
  • Increasing food access for partners serving communities with large populations enrolled in SNAP.
  • Partnering with Buncombe County Government for a community-wide food drive, with drop-off locations at all county libraries.
  • Coordinating with county and state agencies and Feeding America to stay aligned on guidance and resources.
  • Launching a Virtual Food Drive campaign on our website to raise funds for emergency response.
  • Continuing to monitor inventory levels daily and track demand increases across the network so we can deploy resources strategically.
