Saturday (day before Mothers Day)

National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive
The NALC, in conjunction with the US Postal Service, collects nonperishable food items to help families in need in our communities. An annual nationwide food drive. Volunteers needed to assist in organizing and increasing this food drive in WNC Counties; food collected outside Buncombe County stays in that county (usually distributed through an agency of the NALC choice). Volunteer organizational assistance needed two months prior to food drive. Volunteers needed day of food drive at various postal facilities.

National Hunger Awareness Day

Pepsi 'Heart of Summer' A One Day Event on August 1, 2008 from 10am - 8pm. MANNA FoodBank Volunteer Center, 623 Swannanoa River Road, Asheville

UNC-Bulldog Day-College Freshmen come to MANNA to volunteer. 9am-noon

Ingles Day at the Mountain State Fair - Fairgoers who bring 5 cans of Laura Lynn food will get into the fair at no charge. Volunteers that like crowds and handling canned goods are needed to help collect food.

October, 2008

Seventh Annual "Empty Bowls" Luncheon 
11:30 to 1:30  Drop-In - Doubletree Biltmore Hotel, 115 Hendersonville Rd, Asheville - $20.00 gets you a handmade bowl filled with soup and a slice of fresh bread.

November 2008

Asheville Holiday Parade. Help design and build a float. Come walk with MANNA staff and volunteers. Wear a "can" costume, if you like.

November 2008

Ingles Giving Tree Set Up - The Asheville Mall, 3 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC. Volunteers needed to build and decorate food tree.

November through
December 26

Ingles Giving Tree - The Asheville Mall, 3 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC. Two volunteers needed per three hour shift when mall stores are open to accept food and cash donations at the tree location.

Early November

Ingles Giving Tree "Bag Folding" - Craggy Correctional Facility, Black Mountain Correctionl for Women, and Buncombe County Jail inmates volunteer to fold bags for MANNA's supplement in the Asheville Citizen Times.

February 3, 2008

"Souper Bowl of Caring". Volunteers needed to contact churches, agencies, sports bars, health clubs, etc. one month prior to encourage participation of collecting cash and food donations on this particular day to remember there are "hungry" people. Organizations can choose "hunger" agency to receive funds.
