The second running of the Spring into Action 5k will be held at Biltmore Park (last year it was at Carrier Park). This should be a great place for a 5k that runs through Biltmore Park Town Square and the surrounding community.
The Spring into Action 5K was developed by the Junior League of Asheville as a part of a four day fundraising extravaganza that includes a Spring Market shopping event, a 5K, a Bunny Brunch and the Spring Soiree, a great party!
MISSION: The Junior League of Asheville is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
A non-profit in Asheville for 84 years, our volunteers are working on important issues such as: child abuse prevention, parenting education, ethics development for youth, advocacy for children and education and mentoring for pregnant teenagers and homeless women.
Our message is simple: TAKE A DAY, RUN A 5K AND HELP US BUILD A BETTER COMMUNITY!
Funds raised will go to support all the important aspects of the mission of the Junior League of Asheville, NC. This year our community partners are: Girls on the Run and MANNA FoodBank. Please go to our website, www.juniorleagueasheville.org for a list of FOOD ITEMS needed by MANNA to support hungry families in Buncombe County. We appreciate any donation from one can to a box of goods. Thanks so much for your support and participation!
The race is Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 8:00 AM.

- The Literacy Council's Adult Spelling Bee
- May 27
-
Save the date. Dust off your dictionary. And buzz on down to the most exciting spelling bee yet. The Literacy Council will be looking for Bee teams after the first of the year. Each team consists of three adults who test their spelling skills before a wild and crazy audience. Word lists will be provided as a study aid in April. Prizes are awarded to the winning team and the team that raises the most dollars. Door prizes go to the audience. The team fee is $75 or is included with a corporate sponsorship of $350 or more. The team to beat is last year’s winners from Givens Estates! In lieu of admission fee, please bring 3 cans of food for MANNA FoodBank.
