COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING DIRECTOR
Position: Full time, salaried
Reports to: Development Director
Job Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree is required. Having a basic knowledge of, and commitment to, the philosophy of MANNA FoodBank, the incumbent will have significant previous experience in public relations, communications, and marketing. The Manager will be proficient in Microsoft Office as well as design software for print and the web. Strong communications skills are required, and social media skills are preferred.
General Description of the Position: The Director of Communications and Marketing develops and implements strategies for all marketing, communications, advocacy and education, as well as supporting development activities. They are also the lead in the design and execution of MANNA’s special events and cause marketing promotions.
Initiates activities and relationships that will ensure public relations goals, which are to:
1.Create greater understanding of hunger and MANNA’s services to the hungry in WNC.
2.Increase MANNA’s media and public profile to involve volunteers and donors, establishing and clarifying MANNA’s work and mission.
3.Serve as MANNA’s “in house advertising agency” to unify events, materials, and relationships.
4.Leverage MANNA’s voice to increase hunger education and influence public policy related to emergency food relief, sustainable access to food for all, and nutrition
Oversight of other Persons/Positions: Supervision of part -time Communications Coordinator. Coordination of volunteers, including student interns, to assist in special events, promotions and on-going communications work. Possible supervision of part-time, seasonal, or contract employees.
Principal Activities of the Position:
1.Establishes and maintains relationship with media outlets in all 16 counties and with specific reporters and editors.
2.Prepares, reviews, pitches, coordinates, and assigns media releases, op-ed pieces, and public service announcements for the media. Is responsible to edit for style and substance press releases prepared by other staff members.
3.Coordinates design and publication of MANNA materials including newsletters, brochures, e-newsletters, website, social media. Serves as clearinghouse for the use of MANNA logos and other materials for internal use and by outside organizations.
4.Design, directs and executes special events including but not limited to the Blue Jean Ball, Empty Bowls, Ingles Giving Tree and other major fundraising initiatives.
5.Stays abreast of public policy issues affecting the FoodBank and food insecure people in our service area and works with appropriate staff, Board members, and volunteers to formulate and execute a policy advocacy program.
6.Directs all marketing initiatives, including cause marketing
7.Serves as staff leader on appropriate committees of the MANNA Board of Directors
8.Other job duties as assigned to support the mission of MANNA Foodbank.
