Food Drives

Do you want to directly participate in improving the lives of your neighbors in Western North Carolina who are facing hunger? A very direct way to have an impact is by collecting and donating food.

The quickest, easiest way to host a food drive is by setting up your own Virtual Food Drive by clicking here . Reach more donors and raise more food through the click of a mouse! If you have already set up a drive and want to add more to it, click here.

If you would like to host a food drive in your business, faith community, neighborhood, or any other location, please begin by completing and returning the Food Drive Planning Worksheet below. Please return worksheet to MANNA by mail at 627 Swannanoa River Rd., Asheville, NC 28805; by fax to 828-299-7959; or by e-mail to Receptionist@FeedingAmerica.org

With one in five of our neighbors in need of assistance, MANNA is focused on getting your donations to the people who need them most. Please help us to be good stewards of the food and funds you donate by picking up food drive barrels or using your own boxes. Download a food drive flyer to attach to your box, or call 299-3663 x 236 to schedule a time to pick up a barrel at MANNA. food-drive-flyer.pdf

When you are ready to bring to MANNA the food you have gathered, please call 299-3663 x 236 to schedule a time to have your donation weighed. Saving us a trip to deliver or pick up barrels is equivalent to making an additional donation. If you live outside of the Asheville area, please let us know, and we will see if we can match you up with a MANNA partner agency near you.

Here are some of the items our hungry neighbors need most:

  • Canned meats (beef, chicken, tuna)
  • Peanut butter (plastic jars only, please)
  • Dried/canned beans (pork & beans, pinto, kidney, black)
  • Hearty soup (pop-top cans preferred)
  • Meals in a box or can (beef stew, chili, mac & cheese, hash)
  • Canned fruits (fruit cocktail, raisins, apple sauce)
  • Canned vegetables (green beans, carrots, corn)
  • Cereals and grains (rice, pasta, cereal in a box or bag)
  • Fruit and vegetable juice (100% juice preferred)
  • Dry milk (instant non-fat)

Backyard gardeners can plant an extra row for the hungry. Take your extra produce to MANNA or a local partner agency.

Create a habit of buying a few extra cans when you go to the grocery store. Keep a box by your front door where you deposit these extra cans and when the box is full, bring it on over to MANNA. You can set up an appointment to have your donation weighed by calling 299-3663 x 236.
