Root Causes of Hunger in America
There are many contributing factors to hunger, among them:
- Poverty
- Low Wages and Unemployment
- Rising Cost of Living Expenses
In 2009, Feeding America conducted a study of hunger in America. Here is a synopsis of the results:
Feeding America helped feed more than 37 million Americans, including 17 million children and nearly 3 million seniors. An additional approximate 5.7 million different people receive emergency food assistance from the Feeding America system in any given week.
