A to Ashevillean Tammy Adell, a Lighten Up 4 Life participant who will be a focal point of an upcoming episode of the reality show “The Biggest Loser’‘ slated to air March 9 on NBC.

She was one of several Lighten Up participants interviewed by the show’s producers for a segment on Mission Hospital’s weight-loss challenge and its participation in the Pound for Pound Challenge.

Three years into participation in the program, Adell has shed 109 pounds through better eating and exercise habits. The business services manager at Parkway Medical Group, Adell was described by co-worker Kellie Kendall as “… very motivational. She is competitive about it which is fun. She’s urging us and I guess encouraging us to get on board with her and get it done.’‘

A to all those participating in the Pound for Pound Challenge. “The Biggest Loser,” General Mills and Feeding America crafted the challenge, wherein people pledge to lose X number of pounds, and in turn $.14 is donated to local food banks.

By early this week, nearly 600 people had pledged more than 17,000 pounds, with proceeds going to MANNA FoodBank.

Manna’s Josh Stack said, “The money is important but even more important, for us, is the community action. Hunger and health and wellness both have a solution … It is important for the community to come together for both of those.”
